~ Short Story #1 ~
SHIVEERING

PERSPECTIVE: First-person
STARRING: Princess Berrylily “Leia” (Deer)
It was the 3rd of December. I’ve no more gems and my hooves were freezing in the white blanket of snow beneath me. My arctic hood flew away in the cold winds of the mountain. My Jamaaliday scarf was taken by an eagle for some reason. My sweater’s threads were stuck to a rock, and I couldn’t get it out, so I left it there. My snowflake boots were worn out. My thin brown fur was so cold, that my skin inside felt the cold so much.
Mt. Shiveer was definitely not the right place for me to settle, as I am just a deer. I didn’t see anyone lurking in the cold, like I was.
I went up to the top of the mountain. I was shivering, and my mouth was already cold. There was no outer part of me that was warm. I needed to find something hot, something warming. I’d be delighted if I found a fire.
Nearing the peak, I looked behind me. There was no luck; I saw only clouds. I ventured farther and farther, until I was able to reach the top.
I sensed the smell of smoke. I saw gray air rising to the top. I heard muffled voices. My ears and my nose twitched. I tried to pull myself up faster. I was thinking, maybe there was a family up there?
As I got to the peak of the cold white mountain, I saw a group of animals. They were probably friends. There was a snow leopard, an arctic wolf, and a tiger. Each of them were sitting on their own logs. There were four of them, which formed a perfect square. In the middle was a bonfire, with planks of wood beneath the heat. On the edges of the planks were silver stones, and they were very neatly placed.
The animals were talking to each other, but stopped, as they took sight of me. I got on the ground, looking exhausted. I lay down, staring at the bonfire. The animals helped me. They put me on the vacant log, where I continued to stare at the burning fire. The snow leopard took a big bag, got some cloth, and wrapped it around me. The tiger put his paw on his head, and he got his chullo. He slowly put it on my head. The arctic wolf, looking into the same bag that the snow leopard looked into, got two pairs of slippers. She put it on my hooves, although it didn’t suit my kind of feet.
They got back to sit on their logs, and then the arctic wolf asked me kindly, “What brought you to the top of Mt. Shiveer?” I slowly opened my mouth and said, still shivering, “I-- lost-- my-- h-- home-- and-- and-- and my friends.”
The animals looked sad and sorry for me. “Lost your home?” the snow leopard repeated, “And your friends? That’s sad, but don’t worry, we’re here for you. You could hang out with us!” The two other animals nodded in agreement.
I managed to show a smile. All the animals hugged me, and I was happy. I found friends. In my new friends, I found a home. I never forgot this. My life was once ruined, but since then, my life was renewed.
